How to build your Selections Library from web links
Stop copying and pasting specs into spreadsheets
When you are building a custom home, keeping track of every faucet, light fixture, and tile selection is a constant battle. Most builders rely on a massive spreadsheet, manually copying product names, model numbers, prices, and image links from vendor websites. If a link breaks or a price changes, the spreadsheet falls out of date, leading to costly mistakes on the jobsite.
Fixture & Finish replaces this manual data entry. By pasting a product link, the software automatically extracts the product details, images, and pricing, saving you hours of administrative work and keeping your selections organized in one central library.
How to add a selection to your library
Follow these steps to import a new product selection directly from a vendor's website.
- Open your Selections Library: Navigate to the main menu and click on Selections to view your active product library.
- Click "Add Selection": Locate the blue Add Selection button in the top right corner of the screen and click it.
- Paste the product URL: Copy the web address of the product directly from the vendor's website (for example, a Kohler faucet page or a Visual Comfort light fixture page) and paste it into the Product URL field. Our system will automatically extract the price, unit type, and product images.
- Select a Category and Subcategory: Use the dropdown menus to organize the item. For example, select Electrical as the Category and Light Fixture as the Subcategory. This ensures your field team and subcontractors can easily find the item later.
- Submit the import: Click the Submit button. The software will process the link in the background.
- Check your notifications: You will receive a notification once the import is complete.
- If the import succeeds, click the notification to view your new selection, complete with extracted images, specifications, and pricing.
- If the import fails (for example, if a vendor website blocks the scraper), you will receive a failure notice. You can click Retry to re-attempt the import or manually enter the details.
Managing duplicates and keeping your library clean
As you build more homes, you will inevitably import the same product twice or want to use a slightly different finish variant of an existing fixture. To prevent your library from becoming cluttered, Fixture & Finish actively manages duplicates:
- Start with searching: we allow you to search your selections library easily. Either press the magnifying glass in the nav bar or just press cmd+k (mac) or ctrl+K (windows) from anywhere in the app and start typing a model number or product name.
- Duplicate Warnings: If you import a product that looks identical to an existing selection, an alert will appear on the selection page. You can compare the two items side-by-side.
- Merge Selections: If you confirm it is a duplicate, you can merge them. This combines all associated project items, images, documents, and approval history into a single target selection and deletes the duplicate.
- Variant Suggestions: If the system detects a similar product with a different finish or size, it will suggest linking them as variants. This keeps your library organized without creating redundant entries.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if a vendor changes the price on their website?
Fixture & Finish runs automated background price checks to keep your library accurate. However, once a client approves a selection for a specific project, the price is snapshotted and locked. If the vendor's price changes later, you will see an alert on the item page showing the historical approved price versus the current vendor price, giving you the choice to update it or keep the locked price.
Do my subcontractors need to log in to see these selections?
No. We build software with a print-first philosophy. Your subcontractors and field superintendents do not need another app or login. You can generate clean, printable specification packages, task lists, or QR code sheets directly from your library to hand out on the jobsite.
Can I import multiple products at once?
Yes. If you have an existing spreadsheet of selections from a previous project, you can use our bulk import tool to upload them all at once. The system will still run its automated price and image extraction on the imported URLs.
