How to add and approve product selections for your project items

The Problem: Spreadsheet Chaos and Lost Product Links

When you are building a custom home, a single item like a kitchen faucet or master bath sconce often starts with three or four different possibilities. Keeping track of these options in a spreadsheet leads to broken links, outdated pricing, and miscommunication with clients. Fixture & Finish lets you attach multiple candidate products (selections) directly to a project item, compare them side-by-side, and approve the final choice to generate your spec packages.

How it works

Step 1: Open the item

  1. Go to All Projects and open your project (eg. The Smith Residence).
  2. Navigate to the room that holds the item (eg. The Smith Residence, First Floor, Kitchen).
  3. In the room's Items table, click the item row. Its details open in a slide-over panel on the right.

Step 2: Start adding selections

In the item's slide-over, find the Selection Options section and click Find more selection options.

A banner appears at the top reading "Selecting [Item] for [Room] in [Project]" so you always know which item you are building. This is a Selection Session. You can stop anytime by clicking the X on that banner.

Step 3: Choose your method to add a selection

You have three ways to add a selection to your item:

Way 1: Pick from your existing library

The selections page opens filtered to the item's category, showing your library as product cards. This is the fastest path when you have already saved the product before.

  • You can click on each selection for more details and then click "Add to Project" to add that selection as an option for the current item.
  • Alternatively, the cards on the index view also lets you quick add by clicking the "+" button. You can show this button by hovering over each card.

Way 2: Import from a product link

  1. Click Add Selection at the top of the selections page.
  2. In the slide-over, paste the product page address into Web Address.
  3. Confirm the category.
  4. Click Submit.

Fixture & Finish reads the page and pre-fills the name, model number, description, images, and price for you to review. Read more here.

Way 3: Enter it manually

  1. Click Enter Manually at the top of the selections page.
  2. Fill in the selection details: name, category, description, model number, brand, reference link, images, documents, and pricing.
  3. Click Save.

Use this when the product is not online or you want full control over the entry.

Step 4: Exit the session

When you're done, click the "X" in the top bar to exit the selection shopping session.

Step 5: Compare your options

Back on the item, every selection you added shows in the Selection Options list with its image, name, and price. Add as many as you want to compare.

Step 6: Approve the one you want

When you have decided, click Approve on that selection.

  • If the item is shared with other items, a confirmation appears noting that all shared copies will update too. Click Approve to confirm.
  • Otherwise, it is approved right away.

The item's status updates to reflect the approved choice. You can also Reject an option to take it out of consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add multiple selections to show a client during a design walkthrough?

Yes. You can add as many candidate selections as you like. This lets you present a "good, better, best" comparison directly in the app before making the final approval. The best way to do this is via a Design Review.

What happens if I approve a selection that is shared across multiple rooms?

If you have shared items (like using the same recessed light trim throughout the house), approving a selection on one will prompt you to update all shared copies automatically. This keeps your specifications consistent without manual double-entry.

Do my subcontractors need to log in to see approved selections?

No. We build print-first. Once you approve a selection, it automatically populates your specification packages, PDFs, and QR code sheets. You can print these or send a shared link directly to your plumbers, electricians, and tile installers without forcing them to create an account.
