How to save design inspiration images using the Chrome extension

The Problem: The Screenshot and Text Message Chaos

When you are designing a custom home, inspiration comes from everywhere—Pinterest boards, Instagram feeds, Houzz portfolios, and manufacturer spec pages. Traditionally, saving these ideas means taking endless screenshots, saving them to your desktop, and texting or emailing them to your clients or subcontractors. It is messy, disorganized, and details get lost.

Fixture & Finish solves this with our browser extension. You can clip inspiration images directly from any website and send them straight to a specific room in your active project. No desktop clutter, no lost links, and no spreadsheet chaos.

How to Save Inspiration Images Directly to Your Project Rooms

Here is the exact workflow we use at Foxhall Homes when we come across inspiration photos we'd like to save for later.

Step 1: Install and Connect the Extension

Before you can clip images, you need to install the Chrome extension and link it to your Fixture & Finish account. You only need to do this once.

  1. Install the Fixture & Finish extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click the extension icon (the Fixture & Finish logo) in your browser toolbar and click Sign in.
  3. A new tab will open. If you belong to multiple company accounts, select the correct one and click Use this account.
  4. Once you see the "Connected. You can close this tab" message, close the tab. You are now logged in and ready to clip.

Step 2: Select Images on Any Webpage

Now, you can browse your favorite design sites and collect images.

  1. Go to any website containing design ideas (like Pinterest, Instagram, Houzz, or a manufacturer's product catalog).
  2. Click the extension icon in your toolbar and select Pick images on this page. Alternatively, you can right-click anywhere on the page and select Pick images on this page (Fixture and Finish).
  3. An overlay will appear over the webpage, outlining every image. Click on the images you want to save. A checkmark will appear on each selected image, and the floating toolbar will display the count of selected items.
  4. Click Add to queue in the floating toolbar.

Step 3: Send Your Staged Images to a Project Room

You can keep browsing and adding images from different pages to your queue. The extension icon will show a running count of your staged images (up to 25 at a time).

  1. When you are finished collecting, click the extension icon in your browser toolbar.
  2. You will see your staged images. Use the first dropdown to select your Project.
  3. Use the second dropdown to select the specific Room where these images belong.
  4. Click Send. The images will upload directly to that room in Fixture & Finish, and the original source URL will automatically link to each image.

  2. Click any thumbnail to open that specific room directly inside the Fixture & Finish web application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work on any website?

Yes. It works on major design platforms like Pinterest, Instagram, and Houzz, as well as individual manufacturer websites, design blogs, and distributor catalogs. If it is an image on a webpage, the extension can capture it.

Do my clients or subcontractors need to install the extension?

No. The extension is a tool for you and your design team to gather and organize data. Your clients and subcontractors do not need to install anything. They will see these images beautifully organized on the web-based project board or in the printed specification packages you share with them.

Does the extension save the original link?

Yes. Fixture & Finish automatically attaches the source URL to every image you clip. This means you can always click back to the original manufacturer page or blog post to find pricing, spec sheets, or ordering details later. For websites like Instagram, if you obtain the image from a feed then it will just link back to your feed. If you want it to save the specific page for that image, then you need to visit the post's webpage specifically.
