How to update architectural plans and merge duplicate sheets in Fixture & Finish
Keep your field team on the current revision without spreadsheet chaos
Architectural plans change constantly during a custom build, and keeping track of revisions across emails, text messages, and printed sets is a recipe for expensive field mistakes. Fixture & Finish solves this by automatically analyzing your uploaded plans, flagging duplicate sheet numbers, and letting you merge revisions with a single click. This ensures your subcontractors and field crew are always looking at the correct, canonical drawing.
How it works
Updating your plans and cleaning up duplicates takes less than two minutes. Here is the exact workflow we use at Foxhall Homes when a structural engineer or architect sends over revised sheets.
Open your project: From your main dashboard, open your list of projects and click View on the project you need to update.
Enter edit mode: Click the Edit button in the top right corner of the project workspace.
Go to the plans tab: Select the Architectural Plans tab on the edit page.
Upload your new files: Drag and drop your updated plan files into the upload area. If you upload a multi-page PDF, the system will automatically split it into individual, single-page sheets for easier management.
Review duplicate warnings: Once processing is complete, the system analyzes the sheet numbers (like A-101 or L-1). If it detects an existing sheet with the same number, a warning indicator will display next to the files.
Merge the sheets: Click on either of the duplicate files. A prompt will appear offering to merge the two files. Confirm the merge to eliminate the older file and set the newly uploaded sheet as the active version.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens to selections and items linked to the old sheet?
When you merge a duplicate plan, any items, fixtures, or selections linked to the old sheet are automatically preserved and linked to the new, merged sheet. You do not have to re-link your plumbing fixtures, lighting, or tile selections.
Can I cancel a plan that is taking too long to process?
Yes. If a large file gets stuck during the upload or splitting process, you can click the cancel button directly in the UI to stop the processing pipeline and try again.
What if the plan processing fails?
If a file fails to process, Fixture & Finish will display a detailed error message explaining what went wrong. You can resolve the issue (such as a corrupted PDF file) and click the retry button directly from the interface without having to re-upload the entire set.
